Meta, previously Facebook, is set to reveal its highly anticipated augmented reality (AR) glasses, codenamed “Orion,” during its developer conference, possibly this fall. These glasses represent Meta’s foray into true AR, offering apps through a visual overlay akin to Google Glass. While prototypes have been spotted, including by Meta’s Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth, a public release may not be imminent due to production costs, with a leaked roadmap suggesting availability around 2027. Nonetheless, an upcoming demo could showcase significant advancements in AR technology, potentially shaping perceptions and paving the way for broader adoption in the future.

Meta’s first true AR glasses are a separate product from both the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses and Meta Quest headsets. The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses offer audio AI features and a camera but lack visual AR reality elements, while Meta Quest headsets provide VR gaming experiences without AR features.

These two products are completely different. One is for VR gaming, while the other is for capturing images and audio AI features. However, Meta’s first true AR glasses combine features from both. With these glasses, you can not only play games but also enjoy additional features compared to the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses.
